Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
At Liberty Mutual Canada, diversity is about all of us.
We believe that recognizing, appreciating, and applying the unique insights, perspectives and backgrounds of each person cultivates an atmosphere of trust and respect. It’s also key to our success in engaging with all people and possibilities across differences. We work across all dimensions of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender, 2SLGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and more.
DEI is how we do business. We believe that recognizing, appreciating, and applying the unique insights, perspectives and backgrounds of each person cultivates an atmosphere of trust and respect. It’s also key to our success in engaging with all people and possibilities across differences.
Achieving our DEI goals
Our DEI strategy covers five key areas that help us achieve our goals:
- Development
- Workplace environment
- Talent
- Customer & community engagement
- Communication
Taking action
With these areas in mind, we have taken action at Liberty Mutual Canada in a number of ways:
- Our DEI Committee provides guidance and leadership to support our inclusive culture.
- Becoming a partner of Pride at Work Canada, which provides 2SLGBTQ+ resources that employees can utilize to strengthen their inclusion skills and actions.
- Participating in Junior Achievement of Central Ontario World of Choices Empowering Young Women workshop, as mentors. The goal of this event was to inspire young women and help them to understand the many opportunities available as they pursue their educational and career goals, particularly in traditionally male dominated “STEM” programs and careers.
- Supporting the use of gender pronouns in email signatures to support gender inclusion and ensuring individuals who identify as gender non-conforming feel empowered to be themselves in the workplace.
- Providing company-wide interactive webinars and speakers focused on strengthening inclusion skills and actions.
- Participating in an internship program organized by Mitacs/Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, where we benefitted from the students’ expertise in building an inclusive workplace.
- The creation of the Liberty Mutual Canada Insurance Scholarship for Equity Deserving Students, which was established to create a more diverse talent pipeline within the insurance industry. This scholarship provides opportunities for students from equity-deserving groups, with demonstrated leadership potential, enrolled in the Insurance Management program at either Humber College or Centennial College. We continue to support these colleges through employer showcases, hosting field projects, and providing mentorship programs between our teams and the students.
- Partnering with businesses and suppliers that are underrepresented to help them achieve economic growth. We believe businesses and suppliers we support should reflect the communities we operate within and serve.
- Attracting top talent through diverse channels of recruitment and partnering with industry associations and other targeted opportunities to identify underrepresented talent.
As we move forward, we will continue taking action, holding ourselves accountable to:
Pursue your tomorrow, today.
At Liberty Mutual Canada, we want everyone to live up to their true potential, which is why we’ve created a culture of continuous learning, commitment to innovation, and building meaningful lasting relationships with our brokers, customers and colleagues.
We’re always in search of great people who bring diverse experiences, perspectives and experiences — passionate professionals who are enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative, entrepreneurial and team players.
